DESCRIPTION:DREAMLAND ROLLER DISCO BUMP AND HUSTLE AT CONEY ISLAND ART WALLS \nGet ready for the best summer ever because Lola Star and her crew of fabulous dancers\, roller derby stars\, dance skaters & colorful performers will be hosting pop up roller disco parties at various locations around NYC all summer long! \nWe are thrilled to announce that Lola will be bringing her Dreamland Roller Disco magic BACK to Coney Island.  Many roller disco hearts have been broken since Lola closed the glittering doors of her incredible Dreamland Roller Rink in the historical Landmarked Childs building on the boardwalk in 2010.  But\, this summer\, she will be returning to Coney Island with an exciting collaboration with Greenwood Beach at the Coney Island Art Walls and Nervous Records with a weekly Sunday afternoon event called Bump and Hustle (3050 Stilwell Ave). These fabulous parties will take place every Sunday with 2 chances to party with us! The first skate session will be from 4 to 7 and the second session will begin at 8 till 11! These skate sessions will be 21+ \nLola Star reinvented the roller disco experience with her Dreamland Roller Rink on the Coney Island boardwalk (2008-10).  Since this location closed\, Lola has been hosting an epic Friday night Dreamland Roller Disco party at the Lakeside Rink in Prospect Park for the past three years.  These tremendously popular theme parties create an immersive roller skating experience that transport guests into a fabulous “dreamland.”   This experience is cultivated by encouraging guests to dress in costume\, incredible soundscape spun by world renowned DJs\, dazzling eye candy performers who hula hoop with light up hoops in the center of the rink and a legendary skate dance competition featuring the best skaters in NYC. \nThis dazzling roller disco party mobile is adorned with Lola’s custom designed glitter unicorn roller skating over a rainbow with a David Bowie inspired lightning bolt eye printed in glitter vinyl.   The truck will contain rental skates for guests to use upon her portable roller disco floor capable of being assembled anywhere!  The roller disco possibilities are endless… and taking possibilities to their fabulous extreme is what Lola Star is known for.  Be there!!! \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Mermaid Parade is the largest art parade in the nation. A celebration of ancient mythology and honky-tonk rituals of the seaside\, it showcases over 3\,000 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond\, opening the summer with incredible art\, entrepreneurial spirit and community pride. The parade highlights Coney Island Pageantry based on a century of many Coney parades\, celebrates the artistic vision of the masses\, and ensures that the summer season is a success by bringing hundreds of thousands of people to the amusement area in a single day. \nThe MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with 3 goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune ; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as “entertainment”; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public. \nUnlike most parades\, this one has no ethnic\, religious\, or commercial aims. It’s a major New York holiday invented by artists! An American version of the summer-solstice celebration\, it takes pride of place with West African Water Festivals and Ancient Greek and Roman street theater. It’s features participants dressed in hand-made costumes based on themes and categories set by us. This creates an artistic framework on which artists can improvise\, resulting in the flourishing of frivolity\, dedication\, pride\, and personal vision that has become how New York celebrates summer. \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. – See more
